Feng Jie, our confinement lady
Two nights ago, I was pleasantly suprised to receive a phone call from Feng Jie, our confinement lady whom looked after Sarah and Akachan so well during the confinement period. She told us she is now at another family with a new born, very near to our home and would like to visit us when her job is done. We were so happy to hear from her and immediate told her that I will pick up up from her work place, come over to our place to see Akachan and perhaps go for dinner.
We were fortunate to have Feng Jie during Sarah's confinement period. It was a difficult time, we wouldn't have been able to cope if not for Feng Jie. She has more than 20 years of experiences as a confinement lady. Besides taking care of Sarah's confinement needs liking cooking confinement food, preparing special bath concoction, she took very good care our our new born baby as well. At night, she slept with Akachan in the nusery room, and will bring him to our room when Akachan is hungry. Akachan grew very much attached to her even she was only here for 28 days.

Feng Jie is a very easy going person and did not mind helping out with some of the household chores. She vacummed or mopped the floor daily although we have a part-time domestic helper that will cleanup the house on Saturdays. She helped me with my laundry when she is not obligated to so. Whenever she cook for Sarah and herself, she would also prepare my share and will urged me to come home for "home cooked meals". This is not what I have heard of other confinement ladies. I really appreciated her helpfullness.
Feng Jie will always invite our visiting families members to stay for lunch or dinner and she doesn't mind doing extra cooking for them. They loved her chicken rice so much that they always asked her to cook chicken rice whenever she invited them to stay for meals. Come to think of that, I really missed her chicken rice.
Nonetheless, there are some "wear and tear" with the kitchen utensils, stove and sink, furnitures, etc. But what else is more important than having someone who is honest, hardworking, and sincere looking after my wife and baby at the most wanting period.
To simply put it, we are blessed to have her. How she ended up becoming our confinement lady is also another long story. Besides paying her her full salary, we gave her a handsome Ang Pow as a bonus and also to offset her (exhorbitant) agency fees. On top of that, our families also gave her Ang Pows to show their appreciation.
So Akachan, in 2 weeks time you will get to meet Feng Jie, who bathed you, fed you every other hours, changed your diapers, cuddled you, put you to bed, took care and cooked goodies for mummy, when you were just born. She is the first few people that you met immediately when you come into this world. Will you still be able to recognise her?

Perfect Birthday Party
It was a perfect birthday for Akachan. Although it was raining during the afternoon, the sky cleared up towards the evening. In fact the weather was good, cooling with occasional breeze, perfect for a outdoor BBQ party!
We arrived at Bullion Park Condominium, the place for the BBQ party, at about 6pm and waited for the BBQ food caterer to arrive. Meanwhile, my brother Tristan brought Akachan to the poolside and let him waddle his feet in the water. Akachan was having a great time, he liked playing water so much that he practically allowed everyone to carry him as long as the person mentioned "pong pong" and bring him to the pool. He enjoyed so much that he refused to be carried away from the water, struggling and yelling each time. We had intended to let Akachan swim on this day. His swimming suit was prepared and we also bought him a baby float. However the evening was chilly and was not suitable for him to have the dip, so Akachan will have to make do waddling at the side of the pool.
Sarah's parents, sister Yeng Fang, Bock Eng, Kar-Ee and Tanya were here to join in the fun too.
When the food finally arived, everyone were hungry like wolves. The BBQ fire took a while to be started so everyone helped themselves to the cook food. It would really be a perfect party if not for the fried rice, which my father-in-law discovered it had turned foul. Ok this will be the first and last time I'll order from this caterer eventhough the BBQ food wasn't too bad.

Akachan with his birthday cake.
It was time to bring out the birthday cake, we let Akachan stood on a chair in front of the table with the cake. Everyone surrounded him and he instantly became the star of the night, the center of attraction. We started to sing the birthday song and clapped our hands to the beat. The group of ladies and gentlemen at the neighbouring BBQ pit joined in the singing as well. Gosh, Akachan was really excited and started waving and clapping his hands. I blew off the candle on his behalf (accidental actually).

Although Akachan was still too young to eat a cake, I held his little index finger and dipped it into the yummy cream and put it in his mouth. Boy you should look at his expression. He learnt fast, the next moment, his fingers were full of cream. And yes, the cake from Prima Deli was delicious!
